Alaina Parker

Club Director

I Graduated from Kirtland Central HS, in Kirtland, NM,  in 1990. I attended New Mexico Highlands University from 1990-1994 and received a BA in Political Science & History, with a minor in  Biology and Secondary Education.  After college, I taught Science and US History and was the Head Girls Track Coach and Assistant Volleyball Coach at Kirtland Central HS from 1995-2001.

Our family moved to St. George in the summer of 2001 and I was hired as a History Teacher and the Head Volleyball Coach at Snow Canyon HS.  I coached at SCHS from 2001-2015.

In that time, SCHS won 6 State Championships (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2014) and 9 Region Championships.  We had a record of 359 wins, 89 losses. 

We had 2 Gatorade Players of the Year, numerous 3A and 4A Players of the Year, & 1 Miss Volleyball.  We sent 26 players on to play in college, including 10 Division I athletes.

Josh James

Coach

Josh James is a St. George local. He went to Desert Hills High school and graduated in 2018. Taught and trained by coach Jill Swaney growing up the drive to play and coach volleyball came from her. Now currently attending Utah Tech University studying Business Administration and Finance. Excited for the future of boys volleyball in Utah and excited to be apart of it.

Rachel Yates

Coach

Rachel yates is from South Jordan. She played and graduated from Copper Hills high school in 2024. She has been coaching with Gsl for 3 seasons, and this last spring coached under Josh James at Desert hills. She is so excited to coach the future boys of Utah volleyball and see them grow into strong players and great people!

David Castelli

Coach

David Castelli began his coaching career at Mountain Peak Volleyball in Logan, Utah, working with U15 girls and later transitioning to U16 boys. He has also coached at Ridgeline High School, leading the boys’ freshman and sophomore teams while assisting with the junior varsity and varsity programs.

Originally from the Salt Lake Valley and a graduate of Herriman High School, David discovered his passion for volleyball while attending Utah State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Business. He is now pursuing his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree through the University of Utah at the Utah Tech campus in St. George.

David is a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) with a strong background in movement science. He brings a performance-driven, athlete-centered approach to coaching, aiming to help players grow both on and off the court. He’s excited to continue learning as a coach and looks forward to helping athletes reach their full potential through the sport of volleyball.

Victor Batista

Coach

Víctor studied in Brigham Young University, majoring in Leisure Services Management. With the BYU Cougar’s he won the 2004 NCAA National Collegiate Championship playing as a middle blocker, and winning the 2003-2004 VCA All-America Second Team, 2004-2005 All-MPSF Second Team and Asics/Volleyball Magazine and All-American Second Team, and finally 2005-2006 All-MPSF Honorable Mention; finishing with a .378 career hitting percentage, fourth in BYU history.
